A big roll is played in anxiety within our bodies by the family of 5-HT receptors, which are activated by the neurotransmitter serotonin. These receptors trigger responses via chemical messages that are either excitatory or inhibitory depending on the chemical context of the bind. It does this by activating an inhibitory response, slowing down its signaling, compared to other drugs like LSD, mushrooms and hallucinogens alike that activate a different 5-HT receptor producing an excitatory response.
